MOTIVATION
With new member states joining the European Union together with an increasing
influx of immigrants hailing from beyond, Europe has become a beautiful mix of
distinct cultures. The dynamics and dimensions of Europe have been broadened,
incorporating new ethnic groups, customs and opinions. However, this same
diversity which has indeed added further colour to Europe and its identity, has
also been the cause of a number of clashes between cultures. Costly in
political, social and economic terms, discrimination and racism are a big
challenge to the European construction. This fact hinders greatly the whole
development of Europe as a Union of numerous countries, with various lifestyles,
viewpoints and norms.
Should becoming increasingly
multicultured, be considered the cause of lack of social stability and cohesion
in Europe? What can be done to enhance social communication and inherent
dialogue? Is European politics giving enough importance to social policy? How
can Intercultural bonds be strengthened and racist attitudes be reduced?
Such an important issue calls
for serious discourse and analysis. Intercultural Relationships are a must in
the Europe we live in. Together with mutual respect and appreciation, this can
be the most plausible way in which a multi-cultural Europe will function to the
benefit of Europeans, and to that of international relations. Our project aims,
through the debates and discussions, at evaluating the current circumstances of
social tension in Europe, and proposing new methods how this issue can be
settled, resulting in a socially and politically stable Europe.
