< CROSSING GLANCES >
The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership:
A shared vision of the future
Deadline : 3rd July 2006
Funded
by the European Commission within the Euromed Programme, « Crossing Glances» is
realized by Intesa & C.P. in order to promote and make deeper the knowledge
between the European Union and the Countries of the Mediterranean Sea.
In the 1995 in
Barcellona, 27 countries of the Mediterranean Sea layed the grounds for a new
partnership between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
Grounded on
common values and goals, amongst which the region’s stability and prosperity and
mutual understanding between its peoples, the Euro-Mediterranean partnership
establishes the centrality of human beings.
For more than 10 years, the European Union and the
Mediterrean Countries have been working jointly to make the Mediterranean a
common space of peace, stability and prosperity through political dialogue,
economic agreements and cultural exchanges. The main idea of the Partnership
launched in Barcellona is to favour mutual understanding between people.
Aware of the importance of young generations, the
European Union has been fostering for over ten years numerous actions aimed at
facilitating exchanges between the youth of the two shores.
This is why «Crossing Glances» is launching a
photographic competition for young photographers under 30 years old from the
North and the South of the Mediterranean Sea in order to make young people of
the two shores express their point of view using one of the most appreciated
expression tool: photography.
Taking photos is observe, choose, report, know and
exchange beyond the barriers of language and culture. Images stimulate
emotions but also reveal a way of life, the point of view of “others” and a host
of other differences in an ever-more homogeneous world.
The contest is open to young photographers, either
amateur or professional, born between the 1st of January 1975 and the
3rd of July 1988 and residing in one of the following Countries:
Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Malta, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon,
Jordan, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Israel, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
The young photographers shall especially focus on
the following topics:
- Sharing the
same vision for the future
- The
relations between the North and South of the Mediterranean
- The
importance of intercultural dialogue
- Exchanges
between young people within the framework of an ever-closer cooperation
between the inhabitants of the two shores of the Mediterranean
- The
photographic dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean
The deadline has been postponed to the 3rd of july
An international scientific committee will judge
the photographs from the 17 countries involved and will choose 17 winners, one
per country. The leading representatives of the media world, entertainment and
photography will sit on the panel of judges. (Journalists, photographers, photo
editors)
The jury will focus special attention on photos
capable of:
-
Enhancing dialogue and tolerance
-
Providing an original and innovative outlook on topical issues
-
Fighting prejudice, clichés and stereotypes
-
Focusing on the collective imaginary and on mutual representations
-
Highlighting the richness of the peoples living on the two shores of the
Mediterranean and pointing out both the challenges and the enriching factors
of such a comparison
-
Enhancing the right to diversity
A brief caption explaining every photo would be
greatly appreciated. The young photographers who might wish to do so, can also
include in their work a short digital video documenting the images and placing
them in their context.
The 17 winners artworks will be displayed in a
collective exhibition which be held in Rome in the next october 2006 and then it
will go around the countries involved in the project.
