The Euro-Med Movement took part in a meeting in Berlin which confirmed
the creation of a network of political youth organisations in the European and
Mediterranean regions. A four-day seminar, attended by 22 young people from
party political affiliations including social democrat, conservative, green and
left youth from Europe and the Mediterranean region, took the decision to create
the network and name it FALAFEL to point out the border-crossing nature of the
network.
The meeting, hosted by the German Young Greens, was the conclusion of a
year-long process of groundwork initiated within the Euro-Med Youth Platform
that serves as a communication tool for tolerance and mutual understanding.
The network will facilitate the communication between groups and promote
democracy, peace and Human Rights in the region. Its topical priority for the
next year will be peace and stability. The coordinating role in the network will
be taken up by the Young Meretz (Israel) and the Federation of Young European
Greens.
This contact making seminar was supported by the European Commission.
