POLICIES:
- The EU Constitutional Treaty
:
.

The Euro-Med Movement calls on all Maltese political parties to
support the European Constitutional Treaty in the forthcoming parliamentary vote.

The Euro-Med Movement welcomes the Treaty establishing a European Constitution as a historic landmark, which aims at providing a firmer foundation on which European citizens can build a Europe that is socially just, globally secure, environmentally sound and economically competitive.

Following lengthy discussions on the contents of the Treaty, the Euro-Med Movement believes that the new European Constitutional Treaty assigns citizens a stronger footing for re-shaping Europe in the 21st century. Every person should be determined to exploit the Constitutional Treaty in meeting the challenges of tomorrow’s world.

It will enable European citizens to fight more effectively their hopes and concerns on:

Democracy-

By simplifying the decision-making of the EU, giving the European Parliament a stronger say and increasing the role of national parliaments in scrutinising European decisions. The Constitutional Treaty will strengthen our freedom, democracy and  enjoy new rights across Europe.

Jobs-

The common aim of establishing a social market economy, in search of targets seeking full employment and affirming the role of Trade Unions in a social partnership for Europe.

Fighting Poverty-

By combating social exclusion and promoting social justice as fundamental objectives of the European Union.

Environment Protection-

By clearly committing to the sustainable development of the planet.

Combating Terrorism and its root causes-

By means of a solidarity clause amongst Member States, common security and eradicating poverty in the world could be achieved by working together towards peace.

Promoting Equality-

By promoting women and prohibiting discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other option, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age or sexual orientation.

Promoting international responsibility-

By pursuing cooperation and establishing stronger ties with Europe’s neighbouring countries particularly in the Mediterranean.

The EU Constitutional Treaty protects the sovereignty of Malta and every other  Nation State. In a globalised world, Europeans could only prosper and be influential if citizens stand together, shoulder to shoulder.

The Euro-Med Movement and its members commit themselves to fully informing Maltese citizens especially youths on the content of this treaty.

The Euro-Med Movement is committed to make available useful resources and information on the EU Constitutional Treaty by means of official references, links and other relevant documentation put forward on: www.euromedmalta.com
