The
YOUTH Programme is one of the European Union’s educational programmes and
focuses on non-formal education to young people aged between 15 and 25.
The programme caters for the interests of young people and youth workers, not
only by offering financial support but by providing information, training and a
wealth of opportunities to develop new partnerships and mobility across Europe
and beyond Through the programme young people are provided with the right tools
to empower themselves and feel actively involved in society. They will acquire
relevant information about lives of other young people hailing from different
countries, the cultural heritage of other nations and various themes of interest
falling under the programme’s priorities.

How is the
YOUTH programme structured?
The five
main actions are:
Action 1 – Youth for
Europe
Youth Exchanges
offer the possibility to young people aged between 15 and 25 to meet each other
through non-formal education. Exchanges bring together young people from
different European countries coming from diverse educational, cultural, and
social backgrounds to explore similarities and differences between their
countries.

Action 4 – Joint
Actions
This action calls
for a reinforced cooperation between actors from various sectors and fields of
knowledge. It brings together the synergy of three EU programmes SOCRATES,
LEONARDO DA VINCI and YOUTH and provides support for initiatives that build on
their complimentary nature.
Joint actions are
the subject of calls for proposals published on the Official Journal of the
European Communities and being a centralised action, this action will not be
presented in detail in this brochure.
Action 5 –
Support Measures
Action 5 provides
support to develop new YOUTH projects and to enhance capacity building and
innovation in the field of international youth work. The actions’ measures are
actually a package of possibilities to develop new quality YOUTH projects
intended to strengthen the other programme Actions.
